Spiritual Development and Camp Experiences
Henderson, Karla A.; Bialeschki, M. Deborah
New Directions for Youth Development, n118 p107-110 Sum 2008
Camps have long addressed multiple components of young people's development, including spiritual development. In particular, transcendental communion with nature and the outdoors may provide one pathway for young people's spiritual development. The physical, mental, social, and spiritual growth of young people has been at the core of camps for almost 150 years. This article discusses how the camp experience may offer the potential for spiritual development and, for many youth, provide a context unavailable to them in other settings. (Contains 10 notes.)
