"Drugsbridge": A Humanistic Approach to Drug Education
Mallick, Jane; Watts, Mike
Research in Education, v78 p110-128 Nov 2007
"Drugsbridge" is a humanistic programme providing a "zone of transformation" for discussion and debate on drug use. Twelve young people and six unrelated parents met over four carefully designed and facilitated sessions. Qualitative data enable evaluation of the processes and impact of these. The article highlights three features: (1) the effectiveness of the "zone," (2) the process of values clarification and (3) the impact of an "informed choice" approach. The responses show an impact on the quality of interaction between participants, enhanced understandings of drug issues and evidence of prevention of drug-related harm. (Contains 1 table.)
