Government Relations: It's Not Rocket Science
Radway, Mike
Exchange: The Early Childhood Leaders' Magazine Since 1978, n177 p14-16 Sep-Oct 2007
Many people in the early childhood education field are afraid of government relations work, intimidated by politicians, and believe the whole process is unseemly. The author asserts that they should not be afraid nor be intimidated because government relations is not rocket science and fundamentally officeholders are no different from the rest of the people. Finally, no right guaranteed by the first amendment to the U.S. Constitution should be regarded as unseemly; it is fundamental to one's democracy. Here, the author shares his experience in government relations work and offers some strategies for dealing with this issue. (Contains 14 online resources.)
