Art Therapy with Hispanic Clients: Results of a Survey Study
Bermudez, Diana; ter Maat, Mercedes
Art Therapy: Journal of the American Art Therapy Association, v23 n4 p165-171 2006
Despite the growing number of Hispanics in the US and in caseloads of art therapists, previous literature on this topic is scarce and predominantly based on case studies. This survey assessed the perceptions of 27 art therapists from large metropolitan areas regarding the use of art therapy with Hispanic clients. These perceptions included client therapeutic needs, the benefits of art therapy with Hispanic clients, the limitations of art therapy with this population, as well as most and least beneficial techniques. Participants rated art therapy to a large degree as very helpful with Hispanic clients. (Contains 1 figure.)
