A Collaborative Psychoeducational Group Work Training Program for Residential Workers in the Juvenile Justice System
Nims, Donald R.
Journal for Specialists in Group Work, v27 n3 p287-298 Sep 2002
The juvenile offender population presents a significant challenge to residential group workers. One strategy to address this challenge is structured psychoeducational group work. The Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice, in collaboration with Western Kentucky University, has established the Group Work Training Certification Program for individuals working with these youth. This training consists of two graduate-level courses: Group Methods and Group Practicum. Both courses are designed expressly for this population. Posttraining survey results from residential workers completing this program suggest this training was a positive experience.
