Five Excellent Resources on Sexuality and Religious Education
Kissel-Ito, Cindy L.
Religious Education, v102 n1 p94-98 Dec 2007
A preliminary search of the Internet reveals the multiplicity of issues addressed under the topic of sexuality and education. Terms such as gender identity, sexual orientation, women's health, abuse, abstinence, education of children, teens, and parents, HIV/AIDS, morality and sexual ethics indicate the many different dimensions of contemporary conversations on sexuality. In this article, the author describes five excellent resources on sexuality and religious education. These resources include: (1) SIECUS (Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States), an Internet resource that also offers its materials in hard copy; (2) The Religious Institute on Sexual Morality, Justice and Healing, an Internet resource that provides an annotated bibliography of sexuality curriculum for faith communities; (3) "Breaking the Silence--Preventing the Sexual Abuse of Minors," a DVD produced by the Diocese of Orange, California, that is representative of current resources on sexual abuse funded by the Roman Catholic Church in the United States; (4) "Sexuality," a reader on sexual ethics edited by Karen Lebacqz; and (5) The PBS movie, "The Education of Shelby Knox."
