Bowers, Fredalene
Exchange: The Early Childhood Leaders' Magazine Since 1978, n168 p66-69 Mar-Apr 2006
This article addresses two aspects to securing funds through grant writing: (1) how to apply for grants; and (2) where to apply. Grant writing is not as difficult as many people believe. Although there are courses on grant writing, very few people start their career with the goal of "becoming a grant writer." In this article, the author presents 10 tips to help the beginning grant writer, and these are: (1) Assess your chances for success; (2) Get to know your funder; (3) Set up a proposal library; (4) Follow the directions exactly and pay attention to details; (5) Emphasize experience and qualifications; (6) Seek support from local and state politicians; (7) Use current statistics and data; (8) Collaborate and cooperate; (9) Proofread and calculate; and (10) Learn from rejection.
