This article describes how two Baltimore teachers, Rachel Rosenblatt and Linda Andersen, provide tutorial work with hospital patients at the Kennedy Krieger Institute. Their work is part of the in-hospital educational aid offered by Baltimore school district to help students recover from serious illnesses or injuries. The Baltimore program, which was in place for nearly 80 years, serves two internationally known medical centers. This article describes how these two teachers perceive their work with children with injuries as challenging. In addition, these teachers learn how to be flexible when they deal with children with physical needs even medical professionals seldom encounter.
