"It's the Supreme Court, Stupid": A Simulation Approach to Feminist Teaching
Van Assendelft, Laura
Feminist Teacher: A Journal of the Practices, Theories, and Scholarship of Feminist Teaching, v16 n3 p216-224 Jun 2006
In this essay, the author describes a judicial confirmation simulation she developed as an approach to feminist teaching. She also discusses the importance of active learning in the classroom, as well as simulation background and teacher preparation for the simulation. Students are asked to sign up for various roles in the simulation. These are: (1) judicial nominees; (2) the White House team; (3) interest group representatives; and (4) members of the media. She required written assignments for her students to guarantee preparation for the simulation. Among other things, she discusses the three point grading formula that she used, as well as student evaluations of the judicial confirmation simulation.
