Implementing Musical Lyrics to Teach Physical Geography: A Simple Model
Jurmu, Michael C.
Journal of Geography, v104 n4 p179-186 2005
Often students are naive or have misconceptions regarding physical geography because of little or no exposure to the discipline; therefore it might be beneficial to relate content to their other experiences and interests. Students have an interest in some type of music, and by tapping into this, students can further explore geographic concepts. Much has been published regarding the use of music to teach geography, but few provide specific lesson plans, and even fewer explore physical geography. A simple, open-ended model is presented outlining how students can investigate lyrics relating to physical geography within the guidance of the instructor.
