Strategies: A Journal for Physical and Sport Educators, v17 n6 p11-12 Jul-Aug 2004
Today there are more opportunities for girls to compete in sports than ever before. Title IX has increased participation of girls and women in sports, including women at the college level, and this has led to the creation of women's professional leagues in basketball, softball, Volleyball and soccer. Female stars in individual sports such as golf, tennis, gymnastics, and ice-skating continue to remain highly visible and admired. Conducting a girls' sports expo at your school is a great way to celebrate the success of women's sports. An expo introduces school-age girls to a variety of sports and gives them an occasion to meet female athletes and coaches from regional colleges. An expo also serves as an outstanding marketing and public relations opportunity for regional colleges to promote their female athletic program. In this article, the authors describe the steps involved in organizing a girls' sport expo for an elementary and middle school so that it is a winning endeavor for all students involved.
