Criticism about the lack of diversity among those receiving graduate degrees in various scientific fields, particularly in family and consumer sciences (FCS), has been growing for years. One approach to diversifying the profession and higher education in general is to enhance the preparation of students on the undergraduate level by identifying models that can help to prepare undergraduates. This article describes SciencPrep, a model program designed to strengthen scientific preparation of minority students. Implemented by four universities in the Southeast, the program is unique in that it encourages a collaboration between a comprehensive research university and three historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). Participating universities included Florida State University, Alcorn State University, Fort Valley State University, and South Carolina State University. This article includes a review of related literature, outcomes of the program thus far, and initial lessons learned. (Contains 2 figures and 7 footnotes.)
