Private Source Funding for FCS Units
Winchip, Susan M.
Journal of Family and Consumer Sciences, v96 n2 p64-66 2004
Financial difficulties have prompted institutions of higher education to explore private sources of funding. In recent years, public institutions have significantly increased their focus on private giving, with several campaigns having more than $1 billion as a goal. Family and consumer sciences (FCS) professionals need to be actively involved in acquiring funding through private gifts. In addition, high schools are increasingly becoming involved with formal fundraising initiatives. This article uses a case study to examine the components and process of generating private funds for FCS units. The primary elements of a private giving program are identifying a director of development, establishing an annual giving program, and building an endowment.
