The Other Four-Year Degree
Bernard, Rosalie
Techniques: Connecting Education and Careers, v81 n2 p19-21 Feb 2006
This article features Ohio's Miami Valley Career Technology Center. The author discusses how MVCTC is connecting secondary education with apprenticeship and postsecondary training. MVCTC needed support from its partners in both non-union and union companies to get the school to apprenticeship program under way. The Associated Builders and Contractors and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) were the first to work with MVCTC in its early planning stages, with others following their lead. Among other things, the author discusses some of its students' experiences in their apprenticeship programs.
