New York Voices: Focusing on Aspiring New York City Principals
Donlevy, Jim
International Journal of Instructional Media, v31 n3 p219 Sum 2004
The New York Voices series emerged from Thirteen/WNET in the wake of the September 11, 2001 tragedy as a way to help New Yorkers regain positive outlooks and perspective by listening to fellow New Yorkers. The series concentrates on a wide range of figures--artists, politicians, sports figures, musicians, educators--and provides rich information about daily life and the many pressing issues and concerns of residents. A three-part program within the New fork Voices series, "A Year of Change: Leadership in the Principal's Office" offers a stimulating look at three aspiring principals in New York City. Generously funded by The Wallace Foundation, the series examines the challenges they face as they participate in New York City's Leadership Academy, which is designed to prepare educational leaders to work in New York City schools. This brief article discusses the series and describes the Leadership Academy initiative.
