Substitute Plans in Music: Practical Ideas for a Perpetual Problem
Gray, Julie S.
Music Educators Journal, v90 n3 p23 Jan 2004
In this article, the author gives advice on how music educators can prepare ahead of time for days in which a substitute teacher will be needed. One suggestion includes creating a substitute folder, possibly during the summer when free time is more available. The author also suggests creating actual lesson plans that a substitute with no musical training could implement easily and successfully. Another suggestion is to create a "substitute activity bag" that would contain lesson plans and activities for five days (or more) that could be used at any point in the school year. The article gives very specific instructions on how to implement these ideas to guarantee your class a successful day with a substitute teacher. Included is a list of MENC resources along with 5 notes.
