Opening Up the Outdoors: Exploring the Relationship between the Indoor and Outdoor Environments of a Centre.
Stephenson, Alison
European Early Childhood Education Research Journal, v10 n1 p29-38 2002
Examined children's play in indoor and outdoor environments at a New Zealand child care center. Identified four dimensions of difference illuminating the relationship between outdoor and indoor playspaces and the play occurring there: physical versus constructive play, change and stability continuum, freedom and control dimension, and differences in adult-child interactions. Suggested that indoors may be viewed as an encompassing environment and outside as an open environment. (Author/KB)
