Uses information on educational aspirations collected in early surveys of the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth (NLSY) to examine postsecondary educational choices and provide new estimates of the democratization and diversion effects of community colleges. Finds, for example, that community colleges increase average educational attainment for individuals desiring a bachelor's degree by between 0.4 and 1.0 years. (19 references) (Author/PKP)
