Interviews with 61 information systems/information technology (IS/IT) professionals and 34 business unit directors/managers in 2 organizations identified IS/IT professional roles, work practices, and skills. Recommendations for aligning IS/IT and business units include effectively managing discretion, leading through change, valuing job tenure, promoting effective leadership and teamwork, and focusing training and development.
