Relating Aspects of Adolescent Emotional Autonomy to Academic Achievement and Deviant Behavior.
Chen, Zeng-Yin; Dornbusch, Sanford M.
Journal of Adolescent Research, v13 n3 p293-319 Jul 1998
Used a structural-equation model with latent constructs to differentiate the domains of adolescent emotional autonomy from parents and specify the intervening processes. Found that individuation was associated with lower academic achievement and higher rates of deviant behavior through the intervening effects of higher susceptibility to negative peer pressure, lower educational expectations, higher psychological distress, and lower self-esteem.
