The Still-Face Effect in Chinese and Canadian 3- to 6-Month-Old Infants.
Kisilevsky, Barbara S.; And Others
Developmental Psychology, v34 n4 p629-39 Jul 1998
Studied cross-cultural differences using still-face paradigm with 3- to 6-month-old Chinese infants. Found that infants looked and smiled less to both parents' still face; experimental group showed similar still-face effects to both mothers and a stranger. Comparison to archival data from Canadian infants showed that, although Chinese infants took longer to begin smiling, responding was similar in both cultures. (EV)
