Involvement and Investments in Education: Mothers and Schools.
David, Miriam
Journal for a Just and Caring Education, v4 n1 p30-46 Jan 1998
Provides a feminist critique of the literature on parental involvement and school choice. Two research studies demonstrate mothers' critical importance in their children's education at home and at school. Mothers normally invest more time and energy than fathers in child-rearing and school associations. Working-class boys' underachievement may stem more from available inner-city school resources than patterns of maternal involvement in education and/or employment. (40 references) (MLH)
