A Modified Model of College Student Persistence: Exploring the Relationship between Astin's Theory of Involvement and Tinto's Theory of Student Departure.
Milem, Jeffrey F.; Berger, Joseph B.
Journal of College Student Development, v38 n4 p387-400 Jul-Aug 1997
Provides insight into first-year undergraduate persistence by using behavioral measures--based on Alexander Astin's theory of involvement--to further understanding of Tinto's theory of student departure. Findings support the use of an integrated model in which student behaviors and perceptions interact to influence the development of academic and social integration. (RJM)
