The Benefits of Parent Intervention in Children's Disputes: An Examination of Concurrent Changes in Children's Fighting Styles.
Perlman, Michal; Ross, Hildy S.
Child Development, v68 n4 p690-700 Aug 1997
Examined impact of parental intervention on the quality of conflict behavior in 2- and 4-year olds. Found that parents intervened in fights in which children displayed few de-escalating strategies. Intervention was associated with children using fewer power strategies coupled with an increase in more sophisticated negotiation moves. Results suggest that parental intervention benefits the immediate quality of children's fighting. (Author/KB)
