Distance Learners and Their Experience of Text.
Bergh, Anne-Marie; And Others
South African Journal of Higher Education, v10 n2 p169-74 1996
A study using 10 University of South Africa education graduates investigated how students experience two very different textbooks. Results suggest that the students' personal circumstances dictated their approaches to instructional texts. Other factors included English language proficiency; textual features (advance organizers, visual aids, activities); student study orientation, guided by assignments, examinations, and survival strategies; and text marking and note taking.
