Deep Rifts Divide Faculty in Temple U.'s Afrocentric Ph.D. Program.
Magner, Denise K.
Chronicle of Higher Education, v43 n32 pA12-A14 Apr 18 1997
Molefi Kete Asante, chairman of the Temple University (Pennsylvania) African American studies department, the first doctoral program in the discipline in the country, is stepping down amidst controversy over his leadership. An avowed Afrocentrist, his administration is viewed by some as creating rancor and instability among faculty, and has led the university administration to cut program enrollment by half. (MSE)
