Mary and Her Teachers: A Grebo-Speaking Child's Place in the Mainstream Classroom.
Platt, Elizabeth; Troudi, Salah
Modern Language Journal, v81 n1 p28-49 Spr 1997
Views the experiences of a limited-English-speaking Liberian child of limited educational background in relation to her teacher's beliefs about language, acculturation, natural cognitive processes, and cooperative learning. Argues that in the case of linguistic minority children in mainstream classrooms, powerful ideas viewed from a sociocultural perspective may have more influence in teaching than the input-output model.
