This study explores the effects of early bereavement on future maternal functioning by comparing life experiences of women whose mothers died with women who lived with both parents through adolescence. Although the bereaved especially showed more severe symptoms of depression, the two groups did not differ significantly on three measures of parental functioning. (CC)
