The SOED Competence' Guidelines for Initial Teacher Training: Issues of Control, Performance and Relevance.
Stronach, Ian; And Others
Scottish Educational Review, v26 n2 p118-33 Nov 1994
Evaluates the Scottish Education Department's Competence Guidelines for Initial Teacher Training from two perspectives: guidelines as coercive mechanism of state regulation or as compromise among various conceptualizations of teaching. Research concerning the school-based experiences of beginning teachers finds that the competencies and some of their interpretations are not consistent with what they claim to address. (LP)
