Resistance to Affirmative Action: A Test of Four Explanatory Models.
Dietz-Uhler, Beth; Murrell, Audrey J.
Journal of College Student Development, v34 n5 p352-57 Sep 1993
Examined four models that explain resistance to affirmative action policies for women: self-interest, procedural justice, sexism, and ingroup favoritism. Subjects were 138 undergraduate students. Greatest support was found for ingroup favoritism; when individuals had a favorable policy evaluation, they evaluated an applicant more favorably when that candidate was an ingroup members.
