Experiments and Relational Studies in Problem Solving: A Meta-Analysis.
Hembree, Ray
Journal for Research in Mathematics Education, v23 n3 p242-73 May 1992
Results in 487 reports were integrated by meta-analysis to study characteristics of problem solvers, conditions for harder and easier problems, effects of different instructional methods on problem-solving performance, and effects of classroom-related conditions on problem-solving performance. Problem solving related positively to measures of basic skills. Teachers trained in heuristical methods had positive effects on student performance. (Author/MDH)
