Tested meta-analytically the hypotheses that self-efficacy beliefs relate positively to academic performance and persistence. Results revealed positive and statistically significant relationships between self-efficacy beliefs and academic performance and persistence outcomes across wide variety of subjects, experimental designs, and assessments methods. Relationships were heterogeneous across studies; variance in reported effect sizes was partially explained by study characteristics. (Author/NB)
