Several key elements are recommended for a comprehensive substitute teacher support system: establishing a feasible substitute pool; compiling a district manual and building handbooks, including substitutes at staff meetings; overseeing teacher preparation for substitutes; coordinating and supervising substitutes; and providing for adequate feedback.
