Conducted three studies to assess psychometric characteristics and counseling uses of a theory-derived measure of perceived social support, the Social Support Inventory (SSI). Study 1 results showed the SSI to have excellent internal consistency reliability and concurrent validity. Other findings concern influence of mood state or demand characteristics and counseling intervention techniques. (Author/NB)
