Student Evaluations of Faculty: Do They Accurately Portray Teaching Effectiveness?

Selected literature related to faculty evaluations by students was reviewed. The psychometric properties of evaluation instruments were examined with particular emphasis on factors that affect validity. The findings suggest that caution should be exercised when interpreting student evaluations because their validity can be questionable. (MT)
