To find out why some girls are reluctant to join all-male shop classes, a New Jersey project enlisted nine area vocational-technical schools to ask them. Each school placed girls in traditional male shops, gave them pre- and posttests, and had them keep daily logs. The reports indicated that the girls were less worried about handling the work than about negative reactions from their shopmates. (HD)
