Newspaper Readers' News Values: An Exploratory Comparison of Chicanos and Anglos

In the two-city study of Austin, Texas, and Chula Vista, California, the readers' perceptions of newspaper stories were measured by means of a 27-item semantic differential bipolar adjective scale called the Readers' News Value Scale. Readers also evaluated the General Newsworthiness of each article they read by checking a seven-point scale from points "high" to "low". (NQ)
