Journal of Faculty Development, v37 n3 p40-47 2023
This article focuses on the benefits emeriti faculty mentors experience when engaged in a mentoring relationship with engineering faculty of color. The benefits described in this article result from participating in the Increasing Minority Presence within Academia through Continuous Training (IMPACT) mentoring program sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF). The emeriti faculty mentors in this program described the benefits as the opportunity to exercise transformational leadership by attending to mentee career goals; experiencing personal enjoyment from engaging in an altruistic mentoring relationship; and developing greater organizational commitment to diversifying the engineering professoriate.
