Scaffolding and TILTing: Faculty Development to Improve Instructor Intention
Melony Shemberger
Journal of Faculty Development, v38 n1 p62-64 2024
The framework known as Transparency in Learning and Teaching, often called TILT, advocates small enhancements in teaching, encouraging faculty to build on the existing strengths of their courses. When the COVID-19 pandemic emerged in spring 2020, TILT quickly became a method that college and university teaching centers introduced to faculty to implement in assignments and other course design elements, particularly in the online or hybrid formats. This article showcases a scaffolded faculty development series, titled "Using TILT to Strengthen Learning Objectives, Assignments and, Instructional Material," that encouraged the faculty participants to question whether clarity was evident in the learning objectives, instruction, and assignments.
