Attachment of Parents to Children: Their Manifestations in the Development and Expression of Giftedness in Childhood
Robert J. Sternberg; Maren Stern
Roeper Review, v47 n1 p7-16 2025
Just as children have fairly consistent attachment styles toward parents, we argue that parents have fairly consistent attachment styles toward children. It generally will be easiest for gifted children to develop their gifts and display them successfully if their parents were securely attached to them. But the children who have experienced insecure forms of attachment from their parents -- avoidant, anxious, or inconsistent/fearful -- may be able to turn these forms of insecure attachment into bases that actually enhance their creative work.
