Using Sealey-Ruiz racial literacy development model, this article argues that all children deserve to see their identities, experiences, and languages reflected in text. We pair this model with award-winning children's literature to deepen preservice teachers' racial literacy. Scholars have long recognized the power of children's literature in the language arts curriculum, noting that books can serve as windows, mirrors, and sliding glass doors with the potential to transform human experiences. When literature's transformative qualities are honored, reading becomes a means of exploration and self-affirmation. This article shares strategies, activities, and books that highlight stories from Black American, Caribbean, and Indigenous communities.
