There is a paucity of counselling scholarship investigating the trends in writing about Black life and experiences in the US. The purpose of this study was to explore the topics and themes of the articles related to Black Americans, published in American Counseling Association (ACA)-affiliated journals over a span of 24 years. Accordingly, we conducted a content analysis of both conceptual and empirical articles. A total of 348 articles focusing on Black Americans were categorised into the following content areas: frequency of publications by journal and year, target populations, methodologies and topics of interest. Based on the results, we have suggested strengths and limitations of the current scholarship focused on Black Americans. Implications for professional counsellors and research are discussed.
