Journal of Latinos and Education, v23 n5 p1881-1898 2024
In this article, we share insights from Raíces y Rutas, a digital storytelling workshop series which brought together Latinx immigrant families to share stories, make connections and build agency. Using popular education methods, we created a space for participants to engage in deep, communal thinking and theorizing. Participants developed the trust and confidence needed to share challenging experiences and politicized funds of knowledge using multimodal methods. Participants were able to shape the narrative that they wanted to be told about their lives. We argue that spaces like this need to be more readily available to immigrants and immigration-affected youth.
