Education for Tolerance
Paloma Durán y Lalaguna
Peabody Journal of Education, v99 n5 p530-540 2024
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the meaning of education for tolerance. To do so, I will take as a starting point the historical and philosophical work by the United Nations, culminating in the "Declaration of Principles of Tolerance" (1995) and the related "Plan of Action" (1995). Second, I will analyze the concrete process undertaken within the United Nations that led to these seminal documents. Finally, I will draw several conclusions about the meaning of education for tolerance in the wake of The Declaration and extending to the present day.
