Cultivating Interprofessional Collaboration through Faculty Learning Communities
Amy E. Hall; Kelly Jo Fulkerson Dikuua
Journal on Excellence in College Teaching, v35 n1 p68-80 2024
In health science education, interprofessional education (IPE) and collaboration (IPC) support the creation of healthcare teams that provide optimal patient care. Despite the need for increased IPE/IPC, most faculty remain siloed by discipline, offering an opportunity for teaching centers to serve as IPE/IPC hubs. This article explores faculty perceptions of how faculty learning communities (FLCs) promote IPE/IPC. Using a qualitative design, researchers administered a survey to FLC participants using purposeful sampling. Thematic analysis of responses revealed that participants do not perceive FLCs as opportunities for IPE/IPC. Findings, however, hold implications for how FLC facilitators can foster IPE/IPC among participants.
