Action in Teacher Education, v46 n4 p350-371 2024
This single-site case study investigates the effects of a culturally responsive teaching professional development (CRPD) program on seven teacher educators' self-efficacy and implementation of culturally responsive practices in their coursework. Over five years, the study involved evaluating existing coursework, educator training, community partnerships, and curriculum revisions. Quantitative and qualitative data, including a culturally responsive teaching self-efficacy survey, syllabi content analysis, interviews, exit tickets, and classroom observations, were collected and analyzed. Results show a positive impact of the PD on educator self-efficacy in implementing CR practices, promoting inclusive learning environments, fostering meaningful classroom relationships, improving assessment and instructional practices, enhancing discourse strategies, and cultivating critical consciousness among both educators and students. Cross-disciplinary collaboration, collaborative mentorship, and sustained personal and professional growth emerged as crucial elements in this transformative process. The study highlights the significance of targeted support and training for educators to effectively integrate CR practices into their teaching.
