Accelerating Parental Agency for Learning at the Margins
Virginia Wanjiru Ngindiru; Irene Chepng'etich
Childhood Education, v100 n5 p54-57 2024
Parental involvement is crucial for children's academic success, with their engagement known to play a significant role in enhancing learning outcomes. Despite this recognition, the current learning crisis highlights a lack of effective mechanisms to foster parental engagement, resulting in disenfranchisement from the learning process for many parents. For the past five years, the Zizi Afrique Foundation (ZAF) has led members of the Regional Education Learning Initiative (RELI) Africa in exploring the potential impact of parental engagement and empowerment (PE&E) in accelerating learning achievement. To address this gap, the ZAF and RELI Africa partners embarked on a collaborative evidence-building journey, culminating in the development of a holistic PE&E framework tailored to the East African context.
