Community Schooling for Whom? Black Families, Anti-Blackness and Resources in Community Schools
Gwendolyn Baxley
Race, Ethnicity and Education, v27 n6 p875-895 2024
The philosophy of full-service community schools (FSCS) is increasingly infused into the ethos of schools across the nation in Black and Brown communities with purported goals to engage families and address the multifaceted disparities they experience in schools and communities. Limited research explores the experiences of Black families within contemporary FSCSs. This qualitative critical case study centers the perspectives of parents, district and school staff, and community partners and highlights how the disregard of and inequitable resource access persist for Black families.
