Statistical Investigations and CODAP, Part 1: EDA
Tim Erickson
Australian Mathematics Education Journal, v5 n4 p34-37 2023
At the school level statistics begins with exploratory data analysis, or EDA. Statistical learning goes on to include statistical inference, which will be discussed in the second part of this article. In this article, the author will talk about EDA and CODAP. EDA can be thought of as looking for patterns in data using graphs and simple statistics such as the mean or interquartile range. Students look for patterns in data in order to gain insight about the world, to answer research questions, or to address claims. Part 1 describes how statistical investigations might be explored in CODAP in the junior secondary years.
