Childhoods as "Currere": The Power of Proleptic Moments
Julia Persky
Journal of Curriculum and Pedagogy, v21 n2 p134-153 2024
As I sorted through my Mother's belongings, I reflected on things that shaped my childhood and continue to inform my life experiences, including how I engage with curricular materials and my students. As a former elementary teacher, turned teacher educator, I understand that students' knowledges and experiences shape their academic learning. Framed by Pinar and Grumet's theory of "currere," and through poetic inquiry, this paper considers childhoods as a synthetical, proleptic, moment. My stories, combined with stories of my former students, inspired this project.
